My water broke at 10:15 in the morning. I called the Birthing Center and they told me to come in right away. They did some tests on me to make sure that my water had broken because it had only dripped out. At noon they confirmed this. I stayed in the hospital until about 3pm; I asked them if I could go home to get my things and take a shower. They said this was fine and asked me to be back around 5pm. When I got back they put me in the storage room (that was really nice of them!). It was really cold in there and my labor pains began to get worse. They were coming on about every 5 minutes. My aunt Daniela came to sit with me for a little while. She left at about 7pm that night. My boyfriend came back around that time also. He stayed with me the whole time (and didn't even pass out!). At around 10pm they checked me to see how far I had dialated. They said about 3cm and that it could be another day or so before I gave birth. I screamed out loud because I was in so much pain and I didn't want to go through another night of it. At about 11:30pm they transfered me into another room where I would be giving birth. It was nice in there. It felt like I was at home. There were pictures on the wall and the walls were pink wallpaper. I looked across the room and saw a table where they place the babies after they are born to clean them and measure and weigh them. They said I was to lay in bed and that they had to monitor what was going on. They said that I wasn't contracting, but I was. It was all in my back and the fetal monitor could not pick it up. At around 1am the contractions began coming at 3 minutes apart. I was going in and out of the hot shower and walking around the hallway. I walked down to the nursery. That gave me the strength I needed to make it and give birth to this child. I knew it would be all over soon. At about 3am I couldn't take the pain anymore and I wanted something to help me sleep. They gave me a low-dose of something (I was in so much pain I couldn't remember what it was) and I fell asleep for about half an hour. When I woke up at 3:30am the pain was at it's peak. I got up and walked around but that didn't seem to help at all. Before when the shower would help me, it didn't help anymore. At 4:30am, I got out of bed to walk around and suddenly I yelled to my boyfriend to go and get the nurse because I was ready to push. Two nurses came in right away, bringing with them a table that had all kinds of instruments if they were to have any problems with the delivery. I thought I was going to faint when I saw all of those things. The nurse hooked me back up to the fetal monitor and felt me up inside to make sure I had dialated the full 10cm. When she felt inside she said she could feel the baby's head. I began to push and the midwife came in the room and preped herself. They lowered the end of the bed and I began to push really hard. It was only a matter of minutes before this tiny little creature came out and was placed on my now empty stomach. The cord was still attatched to her. It was love at first sight for me and I knew that I had bonded with my daughter at that moment.
